Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  The wording would be exactly the same as it was last time, except we would strike out “10 minutes” and replace it with “five minutes”, and then add one sentence to say “that the above be at the discretion of the chair”.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  For the allocation of time, that's a friendly amendment. And also with respect to the 72 hours, that's friendly. So if you propose it as friendly, I'll accept it as such.

Human Rights  Mr. Speaker, today at noon, the Subcommittee on International Human Rights released a statement on the situation of the Uighur people and other Turkic Muslims in Xinjiang, China. The statement was consensus-based. Members from all parties agreed to it. We learned in two full days of deeply disturbing testimony that between one million and three million Uighur people are currently being held in concentration camps by the Government of China.

Small Business  Mr. Speaker, our country just marked Small Business Week, and I would like to recognize the resilience of small and medium-sized businesses in Pierrefonds—Dollard. There is no question small businesses have been hard hit by the pandemic. Our government has stepped up, though, to provide supports by covering the wages of workers, providing emergency loans and subsidizing rents.

Justice committee  Thank you, Madam Chair. I would like to thank the minister for being here today. I'll start with a question about indigenous people. In Canada, the rate of violent victimization of indigenous people is more than double that of non-indigenous people. This is particularly concerning for indigenous women and girls.

Justice committee  Thank you. My next question will touch upon the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. I'll highlight that this is something we're seized with as a country, and have been over the last several months. Prior to COVID, there was a very robust #MeToo movement, and we'd like to have some responses about that to know what the government is doing.

Justice committee  Thank you, Minister. I have a minute for one last question. I'd like to touch upon Black Lives Matter. At the beginning of COVID, we saw a very robust conversation around Black Lives Matter. This led to the parliamentary Black caucus sending a letter to the government asking for movement on the file.

Justice committee  I want to thank the ministers for being with us today on this very sensitive and important matter. My question relates to safeguards. We know that the legislation, as it's being put forth, has safeguards when death is not reasonably foreseeable. Those safeguards include that physicians have expertise, that one is informed about how to alleviate one's suffering, and that there is serious consideration given to the person in question, who is considering ending their life, in terms of those means to alleviate their suffering.

Remembrance Day  Mr. Speaker, November 11 is Remembrance Day. On Remembrance Day, we honour those who served Canada in uniform. Often we think about those who served during World War I and World War II. It is a day to reflect upon the sacrifices made by so many Canadians for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Justice committee  I want to thank all the witnesses for joining us today. I wanted to put this question to Mr. Foley and others who want to contribute to this. Essentially, I know that many of you are advocating against opening up MAID to non-reasonably foreseeable deaths. I appreciate that. It's something we're considering.

Justice committee  Thank you. Just very quickly—I have another minute—would anybody want to actually flesh this out? If we open it up, how could we protect disabled persons? I feel this is really important, given what we're studying.
