Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, we have reached a point at which even the middle class is having trouble finding housing. Imagine how bad it is for more disadvantaged or economically vulnerable households. People are on the verge of homelessness. This is a big deal. There is one recommendation that I find very interesting.

Government Business No. 26—Amendments to the Standing Orders  Mr. Speaker, earlier, in his speech, the House leader of the official opposition referred back to a time where, to make a change, there had to be consensus in the House. I will share a little story. Between 2015 and 2018, the government, which had a real majority—it was not a fake majority—wanted to have the House sit from Monday to Thursday.

Climate Change  Mr. Speaker, this morning, more than 11,000 Quebeckers were evacuated because of the forest fires. Everyone else also felt the impact of the fires, if only by breathing the ambient air. Climate change is here. We have a duty to support the victims, but we also have a duty to be consistent.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, I understand, but the government keeps repeating that it could accelerate the fight against climate change if it did not have to fight the Conservatives. That is true, but things would also move more quickly if it stopped imitating the Conservatives. Not only is it refusing to divest from oil, it is also looking for new deposits at the bottom of marine refuges.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. I know that he asked the member for Beloeil—Chambly the same thing this morning, and that he could not remember it. Unfortunately, I have to say that I do not remember it either. However, when I listened to him this time, it made me question whether this is not something that falls under the jurisdiction of the provinces and Quebec.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague and friend from Saanich—Gulf Islands for her kind words, but I think she knows a lot more about it than me. She is a long-time activist. Like her and many others, we lament the fact that Canada is an oil-producing country. Sooner or later, it will have to take the leap, change direction and engage in a meaningful transition.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. He seems very optimistic about what is happening in the United States. It could change completely, depending on who is elected next. I, for one, am not that optimistic. Now, there was a word missing from his question. He talked about electrifying transportation, but we need to talk about public transportation.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, first of all, I must say that, for the past week, my thoughts have mainly been with Quebeckers and all the communities in Canada that are suffering due to the forest fires. I would also like to highlight the poise, courage and invaluable work of all the firefighters battling the forest fires in Quebec and all those who have come to lend them a hand to get through this ordeal.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I listened carefully to my colleague's speech. She talked about the clean economy. That is great. That resonates with me. The government is going to create the Canada growth fund with a $15-billion capital investment. However, the Canada pension plan is the organization that is going to manage this fund.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, oil giant BP has complained that it is being accused of oil exploration in the middle of a marine refuge in Newfoundland. It is a little frustrating for BP because, while the company does unfortunately have the right to look for oil, it does not have the right to exploit it.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, in his speech, my colleague talked about hope for families. However, right now, hope for families is diminishing for another reason, and that is the climate crisis. The climate crisis is escalating. Forest fires are growing in number and intensity, and the fire season has only just begun.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I am just trying to quickly tally up all the attacks on democracy that have happened since I was first elected in 2015. I remember that, from 2015 to 2019, even with a majority, the government moved one closure motion after another. I cannot list every single one, but there was an awful lot.

Climate Change  Mr. Speaker, these billions of dollars in loans co-signed by the federal government, where can they be found? They are in the Canada account. The criteria for the account are set out in black and white. They state, and I quote, “the risks are assumed by the Federal government”.

Climate Change  Mr. Speaker, on Friday, Reuters reported about another $3 billion for the Trans Mountain pipeline. Ottawa co-signed two other loans, in late March and early May, and finally published them quietly last week on a website that has little traffic. Climate change is happening now; it is happening today.

Climate Action  Mr. Speaker, today, June 5, we are marking the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. This year, the UN is urging us to do more to tackle the use of single-use plastic. We must be more responsible, but that is not all I want to talk about today. On this World Environment Day, our thoughts go out to the thousands of Quebeckers and Canadians whose lives have been devastated by the widespread forest fires.
