Human Resources committee I would like to respond to Mr. Martin and talk about the sense of responsibility that workers feel in the case of emergency services. I would remind you that when the last strike took place, in 1991, despite the fact that the employer was using scabs—I use that word because I think that it is more suitable—it was not able to provide the public with good service, particularly when it came to delivering old age pension cheques and welfare cheques.

Human Resources committee I'm going to testify in my capacity as a worker. I have been on the labour market for 40 years, 32 of which were spent at Canada Post Corporation. I've lived through several strikes, so I'm in a position to tell you a lot about my experience of the picket lines. Since I don't have much time, I'm going to try and give you a sense of what it means to be on strike and go on strike, with or without strikebreakers.
