Canadian Heritage committee  I would just like to add that, in Quebec, we have five major theatre—exclusively theatre—and artistic festivals. Of the $30 million announced by Ms. Verner for prominent festivals, 0.10 per cent of the budget increase went to these artistic festivals, and the rest went to the other festivals.

Canadian Heritage committee  I am part of the Festival TransAmériques de Montréal. This summer, we will be hosting a German dance company that will be presenting a major show. There has been very significant collaboration with the Goethe Institute, to make it possible for the show to be presented in Ottawa and Montreal.

Canadian Heritage committee  There is the International Theatre Program administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, but it has only a tiny budget. The structure of it is fine, but financial resources are woefully inadequate.

Canadian Heritage committee  Good afternoon, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. My name is Martin Faucher and I am a stage director. I am also Artistic Advisor to the Festival TransAmériques in Montreal. Today, however, I am speaking to you as President of the Conseil québécois du théâtre. A product of the States General on Professional Theatre held in 1981, the Conseil québécois du théâtre, or CQT, was officially established in 1983.
