Justice committee  If I could just add one small point, the pictures that you saw were clearly a criminal act, in my view. It wouldn't have been covered under section 13. But I would like to just propose to you that had we used civil procedures as an example of how to deal with hateful messages, perhaps--nobody really knows--the use of the law itself would have a salutary effect.

Justice committee  I would like to add one small piece to this. I don't want us to forget that it was only 60 to 65 years ago that one of the worst mass genocides in modern history took placeā€”the murder of six million Jewish men, women, and children. There are people alive today who still suffer because of that.

Justice committee  We have ten minutes together? I will take two minutes. First I want to thank you for inviting us to testify before this committee. The Canadian Jewish Congress has for the last 90 years represented the broadest cross-section of Canadian Jewry. We work to foster a Canada where Jews, as part of the multicultural fabric of this country, live and contribute to an environment of opportunity and mutual respect.
