Official Languages committee  In recent years, the commissioner's office has conducted three studies on the vitality of communities. It did so in close cooperation with various communities in the regions. We looked at indicators of vitality, but by encouraging communities to establish their own priorities, in other words what could contribute to their vitality.

Official Languages committee  Yes. That is because there is currently an ambiguity in the act with regard to Jazz, for example, which is not directly covered. Therefore, launching a court case would not lead to the desired results. I believe that the only existing way to remedy the shortcoming is by parliamentary intervention, not through the courts.

Official Languages committee  It's difficult to identify a very correct figure about the cost of a court intervention, because we do not use external services, we use our internal services. Our legal counsel intervenes before the court. To give you a general indication, the budget allocated to legal services represents about 5% of the total budget.
