Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, since taking office in 2006, our government has given women living on reserves the same matrimonial rights as all Canadians. We have taken concrete action to ensure that first nations have the same drinking water standards as those off reserve. We have invested in jobs and skills training, which lead to greater first nations participation in the economy.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, as the member will know, the additions to reserve process is often a lengthy and complex one. I will speak to the minister directly about this specific case. Certainly, we are working with willing partners in first nations communities to advance their economic needs and to advance their economic participation in Canada.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, as I have said, our government takes the health and safety of first nation communities very seriously. Our government is supporting first nations to ensure that they have the tools and the education they need to keep their communities safe. That is why we are teaming up with the Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada to raise awareness of potential fire hazards throughout the year.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, of course the health and safety of first nation communities is a priority for our government. Our government is committed to supporting first nations and to providing community services on reserves that are comparable to the level of services available to non-first nation communities.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I would be happy to expand on our government's commitment to innovation in long-term care and preventative health care. One example is economic action plan 2012. It provided $6.5 million over three years for a research project at McMaster University to explore how the use of technology in primary health care could improve continuity and cost effectiveness of care, particularly for at-risk seniors.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, our government believes that first nation students deserve access to the same quality education as all other Canadian students. We have invested over $10 billion to support elementary and secondary education for approximately 120,000 first nation students living on reserve and about $1.7 billion for 429 education infrastructure projects, including the construction of 36 new schools.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, there is a disturbing pattern. Every time we invest in aboriginal communities, the Liberal Party votes against it. In this budget we have additional funds for key initiatives aimed at first nations' well-being. Let us hear from a stakeholder. Roberta Jamieson, president and CEO of Indspire, says, “Thank you to the Government of Canada” for its new commitment through economic action plan 2015 to advancing education for indigenous use, the country's fastest-growing demographic.

Military Contribution Against ISIL  Mr. Speaker, what was committed was an act of terrorism in Parliament. That is clear from the tapes that have been released now. What I said in my speech was that ISIL had used that attack and asked others to conduct similar attacks in the future. He was inspired by ISIL as well.

Military Contribution Against ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence for his work today in this debate as well as for his support for our men and women in uniform. If we allow ISIL to operate out in the open, as happened before the international military interventions, the attacks it would perpetrate in the region and internationally would just grow.

Military Contribution Against ISIL  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to stand in the House on behalf of the people of Chilliwack—Fraser Canyon to speak in favour of the government motion to extend and expand the military mission against the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL. Like the previous speaker, I count it a great privilege to stand in this House of Commons to debate a motion like this, which is something that has been unique in this country since our government came to power.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, once again, our government has made unprecedented investments in housing that are improving the quality of life for low-income seniors and others who may have trouble making ends meet. Rather than putting people at risk, we are working with the provinces and territories to deliver funding where it is needed most and where it will have the greatest impact on reducing the number of Canadians in housing need.

Aboriginal Affairs  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to respond to the question raised by the member for Churchill. The original question, of course, dealt with a terrible tragedy on a reserve in northern Saskatchewan, and I would like to start by offering our thoughts and condolences to the families and the community of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.
