National Defence committee  We see that the Parliamentary Budget Officer did a baseline study by looking at other countries and costs. It factored in an inflation cost per year. In fact, if you take a close look at the report, you will see that, for the years 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997, it calculated the expenditures by adding an increase for inflation.

The Canadian Forces have a compensation and benefits team that works very closely with Treasury Board Secretariat personnel. Once they have a collective agreement, they do comparisons between civilians and the military to determine the pay rate for the military.

This previous estimates were prepared last September and encompass the deployment of the forces, including their redeployment if the operation finishes at the end of the fiscal year in March. We have $18 million there for redeployment included in that cost.
