Environment committee  There are clearly some steps in the right direction with Bill C-69, and lots of room for improvement, hearing some of those voices here. It's important that the legislation look specifically not just at section 35 rights, but UNDRIP, and create all sorts of avenues for participation by indigenous peoples.

Our major recommendation here goes to the provisions in both the impact assessment act and CERA that allow for the delegation of decision-making authority. Our interest is in making sure that this is realistic and achievable. Right now the legislation defines the bodies that can receive delegated authority as indigenous governing bodies.
