The Environment  Mr. Speaker, the disastrous effects of climate change demand immediate action. This is our generation's biggest challenge. My constituents in Outremont and Mile-End feel the same. I have listened to them and we responded. Our government just strengthened our plan for the environment.

Status of Women  Mr. Speaker, the fight for women's rights is not over. The residents of Outremont have shared with me their concerns about women's access to abortion being threatened. Women's rights are human rights, and Canada has always led on this issue. That is why Canadians are so concerned about the increasing rhetoric we are hearing both at home and abroad.

Budget Implementation Act, 2019, No. 1  Madam Speaker, we ran on a strong economy. We ran on ensuring that Canadians could find good-paying jobs and on ensuring that the middle class and those working hard to join it would be able to succeed in this country. I am proud to say that we have delivered on that commitment.

Budget Implementation Act, 2019, No. 1  Madam Speaker, the consultations that were conducted and the conversations had with Canadians really informed the first strategy on the reduction of poverty. We had many discussions, as my colleague will know, with indigenous communities and aboriginal peoples right across the country.

Budget Implementation Act, 2019, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I believe that at the moment the current economic conditions call for greater investment in our country, which is what we have been doing. Investing in Canadians is what is propelling the economy forward. As I mentioned previously, it is because of our investments in infrastructure, health care and programs that service Canadians that we are experiencing one of the greatest economic periods in our history.

Budget Implementation Act, 2019, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with my colleague from Mississauga—Erin Mills. I am very proud to rise in the House today to speak to this fundamental bill. Our 2019 budget will enshrine some important goals in law, like the first Canadian poverty reduction strategy. It is a privilege to rise in the House and speak to this legislation, which would enact the poverty reduction act.

Budget Implementation Act, 2019, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his speech. Bill C-97 will enact Canada's first national poverty reduction strategy. I would like to know whether my colleague would agree that that strategy is not only important but vital to helping the most vulnerable Canadians in our society.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, the Canadian economy is thriving and we are breaking all of the growth records. Why? Because we are investing in Canadians. The economy is doing well because we are investing in innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly in our young entrepreneurs at the HEC and the University of Montreal in my riding of Outremont.

Poverty  Mr. Speaker, on Friday, as I have done many times, I joined the Cafétéria communautaire MultiCaf team to serve food to hundreds and hundreds of residents in need. At the other end of my riding, the Mile End Community Mission prepares 10,000 bags of groceries for families that do not have enough to eat.

Infrastructure  Mr. Speaker, let us talk for a moment about how we can continue to improve the lives of our middle-class Canadians right across the country. We have already invested in incredible infrastructure projects in my riding of Outremont, such as the metro's blue line, the REM, the new University of Montreal campus and others.

Status of Women committee  Thank you very much for your presentations, which were all excellent. I would like to ask a question of the last speaker. Your intervention was regarding the friends you've lost over the years, and perhaps you have some suggestions for federal government programs that might be able to assist young people in your community.

Status of Women committee  Thank you. With respect to the intervention regarding support for patients when they are in the doctor's office, I was wondering what type of support you think would be required. I believe you mentioned social work. Is there a specific kind of support that you had envisioned that a social worker could provide at that time?
