There was actually a paper that was recently done under the auspices of the federal-provincial-territorial forum of ministers responsible for seniors.

Justice committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. I'll start by saying that I'm not a legal professional, so I can't really speak to the specific provisions of the act. I do share the advice that's been provided by my colleagues that this is an area where there is some diversity in terms of how some of these facilities are structured, what they're called and how they're organized.

I would agree with the member that recruitment and retention is definitely an issue in the health care sector writ large, but particularly for long-term care facilities. Our department is doing some work looking at this issue with the Department of Health, and there was some funding provided as part of the health deal recently announced that tries to address some of these issues.
