Official Languages committee  Thank you, Ms. Ashton. We'd like the settlement workers in schools—SWIS—initiative to be expanded. It's a great initiative, but it's out of touch with current realities in our school boards. I remind you that francophone immigration ensures the vitality of francophone minority communities.

Official Languages committee  Welcoming and supporting students and staff from immigrant backgrounds has a cost for our institutions. We can't do it with 50% of the funds when enrolments are growing. The funding has to increase accordingly.

The Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones also welcomes the upward revision of francophone immigration targets, not only to ensure the demographic weight of francophone communities outside Quebec, but also to meet the crying need for manpower in French-language schools.
