Finance committee  We're talking about increased investment in research and development. As we know, there has been a significant increase over recent years in R and D, but notwithstanding that investment, Canada still lags, as I indicated.

Finance committee  There were few words about research and development in the last budget, and we're hoping that in the next budget R and D issues would be front and centre of the budget and one of the new five pillars.

Finance committee  Thank you, Mr. Chairman. First of all, I'd like to thank you for the invitation to appear before the committee today. I'm pleased to be here on behalf of the University of Ottawa to talk to you about the role of universities in furthering the prosperity of Canada and Canadians.
