Geoff Regan Liberal Halifax West, NS

We're talking one day, so we aren't going to have everybody in Canada, so--

Conservative

Mike Lake Conservative Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont, AB

I know, but it's clearer and more proper. Right?

1 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

I'm going to go back to the motion. Are we ready to vote on the amendment?

1 p.m.

Some hon. members

Yes.

1 p.m.

Conservative

Lynne Yelich Conservative Blackstrap, SK

No. The social economy issue is this issue. It can be. It is part of it; this is a social economy issue.

1 p.m.

Liberal

Bonnie Brown Liberal Oakville, ON

We called for a vote on the amendment as presented. This is another thought, which could be presented after.

1 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Sure, fair enough. That's fair enough, but still, once again, if we're ready to vote on this.... I just want to make sure there's no more debate. If there's no more debate, we will call the question and we can address that as a separate issue.

Okay, then, all those in favour of the amendment?

1 p.m.

Conservative

Mike Lake Conservative Edmonton—Mill Woods—Beaumont, AB

My amendment?

1 p.m.

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Your amendment.

Mr. Chairman, I request a recorded division.

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Sure, that's fine.

Yves Lessard Bloc Chambly—Borduas, QC

Mr. Chairman, which amendment are we voting on? He can't move an amendment, as there is already one on the table.

1 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

This was the amendment that was proposed by Mr. Lake to add additional bullets.

1 p.m.

Bloc

Yves Lessard Bloc Chambly—Borduas, QC

I didn't understand that.

1 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Mr. Lessard, your proposal was not an amendment; it was to clean up the language, which we are going to do. I'm sorry if I didn't communicate that. It was not written properly in French, and it will be taken care of and noted. We did not need an amendment because it was actually indicating what the English already said.

Bloc

Yves Lessard Bloc Chambly—Borduas, QC

They've agreed to it. Correct?

1:05 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

So it's fine. It was accepted.

(Amendment negatived: nays 7; yeas 4)

Now we will go back to the original motion by Mr. Martin. There will be a recorded vote.

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Mr. Regan, you can deal with the second motion now.

Liberal

Geoff Regan Liberal Halifax West, NS

I move my motion, Mr. Chair. Do you require more than that?

1:05 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

No.

Mr. Regan's motion is in front of you. Is there any discussion on this?

1:05 p.m.

Conservative

Lynne Yelich Conservative Blackstrap, SK

I think the study that has just been proposed can be part of social economy. I want to go back to motions. We should have probably rescinded the motion Ms. Brown put forward a while ago, because we are being interrupted by motions. Now we have another motion on the table today. Are we spending all of our time on motions? Can we rescind Ms. Brown's motion?

1:05 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Because the second motion has been moved, we need to deal with that first. We will come back and deal with that issue right after we've done this.

1:05 p.m.

Geoff Regan Liberal Halifax West, NS

The motion before the committee at the moment doesn't require us to spend a lot of time. It's pretty clear and straightforward, and I think we can either pass or defeat it right now.

1:05 p.m.

Conservative

The Chair Conservative Dean Allison

Is there any discussion on that, or are we ready to call the vote?
