Statements in the House

Yes, Mr. Speaker.

Airline Industry April 2nd, 2003

Mr. Speaker, Air Canada's head office will remain in Montreal.

Airline Industry April 1st, 2003

Yes, Mr. Speaker. Subsequent to my earlier answer, I was informed of Air Canada receiving permission from the Supreme Court of Ontario providing creditor protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. The company is also making a concurrent petition under section 304 of the U.S. bankruptcy code.

Air Canada has been able to secure 100% debtor and possession financing from General Electric Capital Canada. Not a penny of taxpayer money is involved.

Airline Industry April 1st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, at no time have we interfered with the operations of Air Canada, and I stand by my answer of yesterday.

Airline Industry April 1st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, I am unsure as to what the hon. member is referring. I made statements in the House yesterday that the Government of Canada was not interested in participating in a cash bailout of Air Canada, but we would help in the restructuring process. I have nothing further to add at this time, nor will I comment upon speculation about what the company may or may not be doing.

Air Canada March 31st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, in the answer I gave earlier, the fact is that the government is not interested in a cash bailout of Air Canada. We have said that we would be prepared to help in the restructuring process, if necessary.

Air Canada March 31st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, who said that was the truth? I would draw his attention to my earlier answer and he would learn the true position on this matter.

Airline Industry March 31st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, I reject the premise of the hon. member's question. He must have had a very stressful weekend.

Airline Industry March 31st, 2003

Mr. Speaker, the hon. member would be surprised that I actually agree with her premise. Support from the government and taxpayers should only be a last resort. We are not interested in a cash bail out of Air Canada. However if we can assist in its restructuring efforts, we will do so.

Iraq March 28th, 2003

Mr. Speaker, it is known that a number of Canadians, voluntarily, as described, are participating with the U.S. forces and the same appreciation that we have expressed for the men and women officially attached to British and American units also applies to these individuals. We salute all of these people who are putting their own lives in jeopardy in the cause of peace.
