The Clerk of the Committee Mr. Thomas Bigelow

Honourable members of the committee, I see quorum. I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, cannot entertain points of order, nor participate in debate.

We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the governing party.

I am ready to receive motions for chair.

Mr. Fisher.

The Chair Mr. John Aldag (Cloverdale—Langley City, Lib.)

Good afternoon, everybody, and thank you for your confidence in that election.

We have a couple of items that we can move on to. We'll move to the election of vice-chairs, but before we do that, there are a number of new members on the committee.

On the Conservative side, Joël, it's great to have you back. The honourable Mike Lake, thank you for joining the committee. It's great to have you here. Mark Warawa, it's good to see you, a neighbour from my neck of the woods, so I'm looking forward to working with you on the committee.

I understand that Wayne Stetski is going to be our new representative from the New Democrats, so welcome. You've sat in on a number of studies with us, so it's great to have you as our ongoing member of the committee.

On the Liberal side, we are continuing with three of our former members: Mike Bossio, Will Amos, and Darren Fisher. As well, I welcome Joe Peschisolido and Julie Dzerowicz.

We have a new parliamentary secretary since we were last here. Welcome, Sean Fraser.

It's great to have everybody here at the environment committee.

Are the members willing to entertain the election of our vice-chairs at this time?

Okay, from the Conservative side—

The Clerk

To clarify, Mr. Fisher has put forth the name of Mr. Stetski as second vice-chair.

Does the motion carry?

(Motion agreed to)

September 25th, 2018 / 3:35 p.m.

Mr. John Aldag (Cloverdale—Langley City, Lib.)

The Chair

Congratulations to both of you.

My notes indicate that if the committee is in agreement, we can proceed at this point to committee business.

It would be worthwhile bringing the committee up to speed on where we left off in the spring, what the plan was for this fall initially. If we're willing to entertain that discussion, I would suggest we move in camera, which is generally the practice of the committee, to have that discussion in camera.

Is there agreement?

3:35 p.m.

Some hon. members

Agreed.
