Being aware of the state of the art in artificial intelligence is quite important. However, I think we may already be way past that in many ways.
We have already gotten a warning from experts about extinction risks from AI. We have already gotten results from many AI safety or security institutes showing that some AIs are already able to persuade people, to manipulate people and to sometimes even break containment. From my point of view, we have already gotten worrying results from existing systems. We have already gotten warnings from experts about systems that are soon to come—in the next three to 10 years.
I think it's important, but now it's even more important that we move on to the next step, which, beyond just measuring, is to actually act.
