I think Maine has the advantage of being much closer to large populations of people who can afford expensive boats. A lot of those boats you'll see in a marina are parked there most of the season, and a lot of those boats do not do long-distance journeys; if they do long-distance journeys, they typically go south for the winter.

The coastline around Newfoundland I think would be extremely interesting for a sailor, as interesting as Maine, but getting there is the issue.
