Maybe. On the other hand, the problem we have in Lake Erie with the sea lamprey is that we have no idea where these things are coming from. It's difficult for me to see how focusing on major projects would attend to that. Clearly, there's some habitat for these things that's been developed somewhere. It could be a side-effect from a construction project that opened habitat up. It could be related to the zebra mussel. It could be any number of different things. But we need some front-line, scientific effort to sort this out, because if it continues as it's going, and if it's mirrored in other lakes, we have a real problem.
As it stands right now, my understanding is that the Canadian contribution to lamprey control through the Great Lakes Fishery Commission is around $8.5 million a year. Is that about right? I think they've asked for $11.5 million, or something like that.
