This is the second year we've tried this. We really need help from Fisheries and Oceans to recover the bycatch of juvenile salmon. Just so you understand, I'd say that the vast majority of smolts converge on the Strait of Belle Isle over a period of five to 10 days. We need to find a way—a cheap way—to capture these fish so we can assess their health and, as my colleague mentioned, better understand the high mortality rate and why these salmon aren't returning.
