The fishery guardian program needs help. I know that the minister just announced $81 million or $82 million. I would take $1 million of that and give it right to the contractor who watches the nets for overtime. There's heavy poaching in Newfoundland and Labrador, on the coasts and in the rivers.
The guardians are the boots on the ground. They're doing the best they can with what they have. They need some serious help. I think they should be either federally funded or provincially funded, not contracted out, but they get the job done.
