I agree with what Ms. Lalonde just said and with the motion introduced by my colleague Mr. Patry. Clearly, we have to send a direct message in order to make sure it never happens again. It is important for the committee to act in such a manner as to preclude this situation ever recurring. The committee acknowledges the situation. I understand that the government expressed regret. However, we live in a diplomatic world, and it is important to know and to continue to respect protocol between countries. It is important not only for a member of a delegation, but also for a former representative of a country. If it had happened to one of our former primer ministers as head of an international organization, our country would have adopted the same position,
to have in fact an apology. I support it.
