At the last meeting, I was happy, because we almost met or exceeded the expectations, so I don't need to read those duties and powers of the chair. I want to thank both sides for doing what you fellows did, and I expect better moving forward.
Before we begin, I would also remind members that, where possible, motions should be submitted by email in both official languages, so they can be circulated without taking time away from matters currently before the committee. This is just a request.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, September 23, committee shall resume its study of Canada's pharmaceutical sovereignty.
The committee suspended its meeting on Thursday, May 28, during debate on the motion of Dr. Doug Eyolfson and the amendment moved by Mr. Dan Mazier.
However, I received a request by five members, under Standing Order 106(4), to convene a meeting to discuss a request to study the PrescribeIT program, invite the Minister of Health, Madam Marjorie Michel, and summon the former Canada Health Infoway CEO Michael Green to testify as part of the committee's investigation.
I want to note, as a procedural reminder, that section 20.98 of the House of Commons Procedure and Practice states, “If the committee has an ongoing, yet suspended, meeting, it would resume the suspended meeting within the timelines prescribed by Standing Order 106(4) and decide how it wishes to consider the request.”
Therefore, at this time, I would like to see if the member wishes to move a dilatory motion to consider Standing Order 106(4).
