Colleagues and ladies and gentlemen, this is the 33rd meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Today is Thursday, October 23, 2014. We're here for clause-by-clause consideration of a private member's bill, Bill C-591, an act to amend the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security Act (pension and benefits).

Before we begin, I again welcome back to the committee Philippe Méla. Philippe was at our last meeting and is the legislative clerk who is going to be assisting today in the clause-by-clause consideration. I know that he has already spoken with all sides of the table about the grammatical changes in the French version of what you've seen. In a moment, I will put it to Philippe to deal with those changes if required.

Do we require any further explanation from members around the table about those grammatical changes?

Okay? Seeing none, I'm advised that what we would need to do is put it on the record that you accept the report as amended because of those grammatical changes.

I would like to move that clause 1 be amended by replacing line 16 on page 1 with the following:

Seeing none, I need to advise the committee that if amendment G-1 is adopted, so are amendments G-3, G-4, G-5, G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, G-11, G-12, G-13, G-14, G-15, G-16, and G-17, as they are all consequential to G-1.

We could wrap it up quite quickly here today, which would be a good thing, I would think.

Pretty much everything on your list below G-2 has been passed as a result of the amendment to G-1 being passed.

This was very efficient, and I appreciate the consensus around the table today. We got back to business today here at committee. We thought it important that we do meet as an extension of what we just did in the House of Commons, so under the circumstances I appreciate members changing the time, being here to see this bill to completion, and now being able to report back to the House.

Before we adjourn the meeting, I would say first of all of how delighted I am to see everybody sitting around this table.

Once again, huge thanks from this committee to all our staff and our security, Sergeant-at-Arms Vickers, the RCMP, and all the military who put themselves at risk in order to secure the precinct. A big, big thank you to them.

We remember also Corporal Cirillo and the pain his family must be going through.
