MP Larouche, thank you very much for the question.
Can you achieve perfection through this bill? No. Is it perfect? No, but is it signalling the right kind of conversation we need to have in Canada about trade harmonization across our provinces? Given the economic situation we're facing, given the major projects we want to build and given the infrastructure we want to build, this is going to begin the way of doing that.
Our current system gets in the way, so how can we find a way across the aisle for federal and provincial governments to figure out a way we can deal with that, to help us meet the moment, to help us build these major projects and to help us build the infrastructure? I think this is a good start.
It's not going to solve it. You're going to need a lot of provincial support and you're going to have to be careful about what's in the provincial jurisdiction and what's in the federal jurisdiction, but there are a lot of things around the edges in this conversation that I think really need to happen.
I would agree with your comment that maybe it's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction, and it's a big one.
