I have two things. On the proactive side, one of the tools we use, which is actually one of my favourite tools, is a series of just-in-time warnings that we deliver to users, whether it's in messaging or with a new friend contact. We'll say, “Hey, this user isn't part of your social graph. They say they're coming from here, but we don't think that's where their location is actually based.” Any one of these signals is easy for a scammer to get around, break, and get through, but we can feed a collection of them to the user and say, “This looks suspicious. It could be legit, because it could be your friend travelling, but you should have your guard up.”
That's really the key to prevention. It's about not focusing on one specific trend, because the more you do that, the faster the scammers will move. It's to really focus on that—
