First there is the blackmail with respect to visas. Journalists' visas are very difficult to obtain. Foreign journalists who want to investigate in the country must generally resort to using tourist or business visas and must do their work very discreetly. Foreign journalists are exposed to about the same risks as their Myanmar colleagues. I’m thinking of the case of three journalists, one from Burma, another from Singapore and one from Malaysia, who were arrested and held in jail for a month in November 2017, simply because they tried to film the plans for the Myanmar parliament.
