I have some data on the status of malnutrition in Haiti. It's not good, as you would expect. Of the numbers we have, 294,000 children are at risk of acute malnutrition this year, and that includes 130 children under five with severe, acute malnutrition.
We estimate that one in five children under five suffers from stunting, which means that they're too short for their age. About 5% of children under five were acutely malnourished in 2022. That's the most recent year for that data.
As to water, 3.5 million people need wash services and water and sanitation services, and 71% of Haitians do not have access to basic sanitation as of 2024. The last one I'll share with you is that approximately 18% of Haitians still practise open defecation as of 2023. It's a very dire situation.
