Let me say this: most defence counsel will tell you that the bail hearing is the most important aspect of the criminal justice system, because it's the front end. A determination is made as to whether or not your client's right under the charter is going to be met. A client in custody starts, in effect, serving their sentence, and the pressure is incredible.
