It's important to balance French and English and to ensure that recruits are able to communicate in one of the two official languages. In my career, I've come across a situation where an individual couldn't speak English very well and could not speak French at all. That person had a lot of trouble on deployment and was sent back to Canada because of it. They couldn't function in the operating environment.
