The whole world is going through electrification at the same time. Electrical infrastructure and component parts are under significant demand worldwide. Sixty per cent of Canada's critical electrical equipment supply is imported, and 70% of that is coming from the United States, China and Mexico. We are heavily reliant on imported products and components, so it's important that we look at where we can start to manufacture those products here in Canada to help secure our domestic supply.
Again, if you want to bring more manufacturing of these critical grid components to Canada, we are asking you to expand the manufacturing investment tax credit to include grid equipment. That way we can start to incentivize those companies and compete with the U.S. so that we continue to be an exporter of this equipment, but also continue to secure our domestic supply.
