I'm very familiar with the Calgary-Ottawa flight.
Basically, the obligation to provide service in French at the airport already exists under the Official Languages Act. When the passenger arrives at the check-in counter, they have the right to be served in French. Airport announcements also have to be made in French.
What's new under the act and regulations is the service aboard the aircraft. The safety briefing is already given in French. That obligation already exists. What's more, all on-board announcements are already delivered in both languages. The service on board the aircraft is what's changing. Passengers will have the right to be served in French on that flight, for instance, when ordering food or beverages. That means we'll need crew members able to serve people in French. For us, that means making sure we have enough staff in Calgary to cover those flights and provide service in French.
