I would note that five provinces, I believe, in Canada have declared gender-based violence or intimate partner violence a crisis, with Newfoundland and Labrador being the most recent. It really shows the grave concern that we have for the safety of women, girls and gender-diverse people.
Every 48 hours in Canada, a woman or girl is killed. We know that when they choose to leave an abusive relationship, it's the most risky time. What we've been discussing in terms of the availability of safe spaces for them to go to is absolutely essential for their safety and even their survival.
