Thanks very much to our witnesses for being here.
I'll start with our witnesses from La Cité.
You talked, I think, about GIS in your opening. There's a full college equivalency for that. What is another example that would be widely understood where the necessary skills and experience are demonstrated but the training and education have to be repeated, and this could be resolved through a PLAR process—a prior learning assessment review process—but there isn't a framework in place?
I used the example in the previous hour that there are some college programs where, when someone applies for a program, they take a look and say, “Once you've completed this program, if you do one year at this university, you'll also get a degree”. You'll have both a diploma and a degree. I suggested to the witnesses who were here that perhaps we should be doing this when we're recruiting for the Canadian Forces and saying, “When you leave the telecommunication line trade”—that's the trade that I was in when I was in the army as a sergeant—“here's the civilian pathway to employment for you.” Then it's not incumbent on industry or the educational institutions to build the solution. I think that the Canadian Armed Forces needs to come to the table and say, “Here's what we're looking to do,” and talk to the experts about how to do it.
What's another example of that? Perhaps it would be illustrative of how we can close that gap.
