Mr. Speaker, as I said before, these concerns are being taken very seriously by the minister and the department. A number of reports are on his desk. There is the report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, the Pearse-McRae report, and the report from the first nations. Most recently we received the report from Mr. Justice Williams. These initiatives, along with the significant progress already under way on the west coast, are giving the minister and his department a lot to consider as they plan for the future of the west coast fishery.
I agree with the member opposite that there has to be more enforcement and more science. Most important, there has to be more dialogue between the different stakeholders on the Fraser River.
We look forward to working closely with all members of the House to ensure a bright future for our Pacific fisheries.
