Conservative

Pierre Poilievre Conservative Carleton, ON

Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. There has been a new development that I believe will necessitate reconsideration of whether we continue.

As members know, the stumbling block to put an end to this marathon voting is our demand that the ethics committee begin and conclude an investigation into the SNC-Lavalin cover-up. Government members have refused. They have been here all night, fighting against exposing the truth.

However, just moments ago a story broke in Maclean's magazine in which the outgoing Liberal Treasury Board president said, “there’s much more to the story”. She further went on to say that there had been an effort to shut down the story. In light of that news, I know there will be government members who will want to shed light on this. I ask that they rise and do that now so we can agree to end the marathon voting, end the cover-up at the same time, and let Canadians know the truth.

Interim EstimatesGovernment Orders

March 21st, 6:40 a.m.

The Assistant Deputy Speaker Carol Hughes

That was obviously not a point of order. It is not anything that we will be voting on. That was actually debate.

Does the hon. member for Saanich—Gulf Islands have a point of order?

Interim EstimatesGovernment Orders

March 21st, 2019 / 6:40 a.m.

Green

Elizabeth May Green Saanich—Gulf Islands, BC

Yes, Madam Speaker.

Given what the member for Carleton has just said, it is tempting to make the point that if you seek it you will find that most of us here are voting on supplementary estimates so that the Government of Canada can continue to work, and we are not trying to hold up anything.

As much as I agree with the motivation of my friends in the Conservative Party, this is a huge waste of public funds and resources.

The Assistant Deputy Speaker Carol Hughes

Once again, that is actually another point of debate.

The hon. member for Windsor West has a point of order, and is it a point of order?

Brian Masse NDP Windsor West, ON

Madam Speaker, I think that if you seek it, you will find unanimous consent for a public inquiry, given the circumstances at hand.
