Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I have a motion that can bridge the divide between the two sides. I reach out to the words of a current Liberal member of Parliament, the former Treasury Board president.

I move that the House of Commons unanimously concur with the words of the Liberal member of Parliament for Markham—Stouffville and former Treasury Board president: “There's much more to the story that needs to be told” and “I believe we actually owe it to Canadians as politicians to ensure that they have the truth.”

Madam Speaker, I rise on another point of order. I believe I erred in not offering to table the document from which I was quoting.

This is today's Maclean's magazine article, titled with the name of the member of Parliament, wherein she stated, “There's much more to the story that needs to be told.” In an exclusive interview with Paul Wells, the former Treasury Board president said, “I believe we actually owe it to Canadians as politicians to ensure that they have the truth.” It is dated March 21, 2019.

I offer to table this in the House of Commons, and we will get it translated as quickly as possible, with the unanimous consent of our Liberal friends across the way.

Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I think it is in the interests of all people who work in this place that we treat each other with respect. I would like to invite the member for Don Valley East to withdraw her comments, which were overhead by many people over here, when she referred to the member for Markham—Stouffville as “pathetic”.

I would like to remind members that courtesy is very important in the House of Commons. We have been in the House for a very long time, and I am sure everyone would like to end the voting. We will therefore continue.

Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I would draw your attention to a number of precedents in this place in which members have used unparliamentary language and have not withdrawn the matter. I draw your attention to March 24, 1993; September 30, 1994; and May 29, 1995. There are about a dozen examples in which this has happened.

In each of those examples, the Speaker of the day used Standing Order 11 and named the hon. member. Therefore, I would encourage you, based on precedent, to name the hon. member and have her withdraw from this House for the remainder of the sitting day.

The member did acknowledge that she said something she should not have said. She did not apologize, and I will give her the opportunity to do that at the earliest convenience. Therefore, at this time we will continue with the motions. Should the member decide to apologize for her comments, certainly the House will entertain that.
