Mr. Speaker, I rise today to present a petition brought forth by Aaron Hagey-Mackey and signed by 765 Canadians. The petitioners ask our government to establish an open, transparent and legally binding public naming process for major infrastructure projects. The petitioners seek a process that would allow citizens and residents of Canada to submit name proposals for projects. They seek a voting mechanism that would allow publicly approved names to then be adopted as the official project name, subject of course to reasonable standards of decency.
The petitioners seek to embrace democratic principles of citizen engagement by allowing public naming of public projects.
