Mr. Speaker, the second petition calls for immediate relief for the rising diesel costs and stronger Canadian energy security.
Diesel is essential to all Canadian farmers, truckers, businesses and workers. When diesel prices rise, the cost of producing food, transporting goods and operating businesses rises with them, and that puts pressure on all Canadians.
Therefore, the petitioners are calling on the Government of Canada to provide immediate relief from federal taxes on diesel until Canada Day, support new refinery and fuel transportation infrastructure, and take steps to strengthen Canada's domestic fuel supply so Canadians have a less vulnerable system and fewer shortages in supply and distribution.
