Madam Speaker, earlier this week, I was honoured to join Dr. Sandra DeLaronde at Rideau Hall as she received the 2025 Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
It was a very proud moment. For decades, Sandra has championed the rights and dignity of indigenous women and girls, survivors and families.
Through her leadership with the Giganawenimaanaanig, her teaching and her advocacy, she has worked tirelessly to ensure that voices too often silenced are heard and respected, because being heard matters, being respected matters and having a voice in decisions that shape one's life matters.
Sandra's courage, compassion and determination are making a difference.
I thank her for reminding us that true change begins with listening, but takes shape through action.
I congratulate Sandra on this remarkable achievement.
