Madam Speaker, lastly, I wish to table petition e-7522.
The petitioners speak specifically to the memorandum of understanding that was signed between the federal government and Premier Danielle Smith, which they feel delivers a wish list to the oil and gas lobby. The petitioners are concerned that the MOU was signed in violation of the government's duty to obtain free, prior and informed consent of indigenous peoples, the Constitution Act, 1982, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Moreover, the signatories are concerned about the fast-tracking of another environmentally destructive oil pipeline that threatens the health and well-being of folks across Canada, speaking to the increasing climate emergencies that are occurring and climate-related hospitalizations.
The petitioners are calling on the Government of Canada to stop fast-tracking environmentally catastrophic fossil fuel projects, protect the health and well-being of all those impacted by climate change and invest in a worker-, community- and indigenous-led green energy transition that benefits everyone in Canada.
