Madam Speaker, I would encourage the member to understand how those credit ratings are issued. If the member remembers, in the last budget, there was a warning from Fitch Ratings to the federal government about the amount of debt it was incurring, because it dropped the fiscal anchor that measures debt, which is the debt-to-GDP ratio. For a rating to be maintained, the debt-to-GDP ratio must be maintained. What are we seeing? It will be getting worse over the next five years.
Members from the Liberal government continuously stand up in the House and say that they will take no lessons from the Conservatives. Well, perhaps they can take a lesson from the cold, hard math, and the math is not looking good. I would encourage the member to take a sobering stand, recognize that there is a problem with the amount of borrowing the government is taking on and provide a credible plan to repay it.
