Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister promised just last year, “Canadians will hold us to account by their experience at the grocery store”. Now, food is even more expensive since the Prime Minister took office because of diesel prices.
Conservative shadow ministers and I were in the Canadian Arctic this summer. In Inuvik, it costs six dollars for a can of beans, seven dollars for a can of vegetable soup, $12 for a pound of butter, $13 for a pound of ground beef and $18 for a jug of milk. In Tuktoyaktuk, it costs $7.49 per kilogram for bananas, $8.69 for a loaf of bread, $12 for a litre of ketchup, $20 for a jug of chocolate milk and $97 for 24 bottles of water. Food is not affordable in the north.
Prime Minister, your promise was to all Canadians, including northerners. Will the Prime Minister support our Conservative plan to eliminate all taxes on diesel so that food is more affordable for northern Canadians?
