Mr. Speaker, on September 29, President Trump's ban on Canadian alcohol imports came into effect. This is critically important because there has hardly been a more challenging time for Canada's small wineries, craft breweries and distilleries. These new barriers to trade expose how Canadians cannot access their own national market despite many promises to Canadians from the Liberal government.
Canadians still cannot enjoy direct-to-consumer shipping of Canadian-produced wine, beer and spirits. My bill, Bill C-262, would allow Canada Post and other trusted carriers to ship their products directly to Canadians across provincial boundaries. When I tabled my bill this past March, the minister responsible sounded supportive of the bill and what it sets out to achieve. I have lost track, though, how many times I have heard the Prime Minister say that we are masters of our own destiny and that we must focus on the things we can control.
My bill meets those standards. I am daring the Prime Minister to get off the sidelines, adopt my bill and let producers sell their made-in-Canada products directly to consumers. It is time to allow this market to grow in Canada.
