Madam Speaker, I must admit I am a big fan of my colleague from across the way. I appreciate working with him on the environment committee.
He mentioned yet another big, grand announcement the government has made and that somehow we are supposed to believe it is going to lead to some sort of outcome sometime in the future. However, the reality is that the affordability crisis is striking at the hearts of family homes right now.
Interestingly, from that committee testimony we learned some interesting facts about those home energy retrofits that the government is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on. In fact, they are not leading to homes being retrofit. Also, the outcomes of those retrofits are a lot less than it had promised.
To ensure Canadians have the money to pay their bills, government needs to get out of the way and not spend more money it does not have.
