Mr. Speaker, on October 19, the citizens of Alberta will vote on the question of Alberta pursuing separation from Canada. Unequivocally, I urge Albertans to reject separation as the path forward for our province.
Without question, the Liberal government in Ottawa has worked against our province over the last 10 years, and those actions have led some to believe that separation is the only answer. I disagree. I urge Albertans to put their energies and their votes into making our Confederation work in the way that it was designed to work. The federal government must respect the division of powers in our Constitution and ensure that provinces are unfettered in their areas of authority.
To my fellow Albertans, yes, Canada is imperfect, but our shared history, our culture, our hopes and our dreams are worth working on and fighting for together. On October 19, I will be voting to ensure a stronger Alberta and a united Canada. Please join me.
