Madam Speaker, there is obviously a lot of work to do when it comes to energy efficiency. The Bloc Québécois believes that energy efficiency relates to the environment and climate change. In Quebec, we are fortunate to have clean electricity, which is basically produced by hydro power. That is a big advantage, and we have a role to play in the economy of tomorrow.
We think it is unfortunate that, here at the federal level, most of the funding to support energy development goes to western Canada's oil and gas industry. There was talk of $43 billion for a new pipeline. We do not think that is the right way to go when it comes to developing the economy of tomorrow.
There is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to energy efficiency. This includes, for example, better home insulation, more efficient energy use and energy conservation. The federal government used to have programs in place in this area, and we would like those programs to be reinstated. That would be a step in the right direction.
