Mr. Speaker, I am going to try this again. We know that the people feeling the cost of living crisis more than anyone are those on fixed incomes, such as people living with disabilities. I spoke to my colleague earlier about this. Right now, the disability benefit is a meagre $200 a month. I believe that people living with a disability should be getting a universal basic income so they are living above the poverty line. Instead, they need to apply for the disability tax credit to access the disability benefit. They have to get a health professional to approve it. It consumes about 250,000 patient visits a year for doctors, and a bunch of CRA time.
Does my colleague agree to get rid of this red tape and make it easier for people living with disabilities? The government should not make people prove twice that they have a disability in their home province or territory. If it has already been deemed that they have a disability, they should automatically qualify.
