Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his question. I also hold him in high regard. He has spent more than 20 years in the banking sector, and I am fortunate to serve alongside him on the Standing Committee on Finance.
What struck me this morning was the testimony of the Governor of the Bank of Canada. He told us that, so far, businesses have mostly absorbed the cost increases associated with higher gas and diesel prices. However, those higher fuel costs are expected to remain higher for years to come and, unfortunately, taxpayers will have to foot the bill for the rise in gas and diesel prices.
That is why, on our side of the aisle, we are calling for the tax on diesel and gas to be scrapped to give taxpayers some breathing room.
