Statements in the House

Transport February 17th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I would like the member to realize that we have already done some work, that we have money on the table, that the province is participating and that the city is working with us. I do not know where the member was, but the mayor is very happy with the work that is being done. Much more will be done together.

Transport February 17th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I would like the hon. member to know that we received the details of the Schwartz report only a few weeks ago. We look on it very favourably. We have scheduled meetings with the city and the Government of Ontario to ensure that this report will be implemented with regard to the parts that do not interfere with the work of the binational committee. We are well along in our examination of this report. And we are very proud of the report.

Airports February 16th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I hope the hon. member also read the report. It is congratulating the Department of Transport for its transparency and the way it is administering the leases.

As a matter of fact, the review is now complete. It has been shared with some of my colleagues, especially the Minister of Finance. I hope that in the next few days we will have some good news.

Public Transportation February 16th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, there is nothing more concrete than actual transfers to Canadian municipalities and cities. With these transfers, they will be able to modernize their public transit services and put money where it is needed to ensure that environmental objectives are achieved. Public transit is indeed a priority and there will money for it in the budget. Do not give it a thought, kindly rejoice.

Public Transportation February 16th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I think that one of the initiatives of this government that will be included in the budget will, of course, be the transfer of the gasoline tax to help municipalities, and particularly larger cities, set up adequate public transit services. We are talking about hundreds of millions of dollars that will help build and put in place public transit infrastructures. This is the best news that large cities will have heard in a long time.

Airports February 15th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, the hon. member was once a Conservative minister and this is exactly the same standard of treatment as in his time. We are talking about $160,000 over three years. We are a long way from a private terminal. We are a long way from deluxe facilities. We simply want to have the same kind of facilities as in commercial aviation in general.

Airports February 14th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I am also worried about the airport rent and so is the Minister of Finance. The hon. member can count on the Minister of Finance to protect Regina.

Sport Canada February 11th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, I know the Minister of State for Sport will be very interested in the topic. I will make sure he gets the information and responds to the request of the hon. member.

Transportation February 10th, 2005

Mr. Speaker, if anyone in the House is concerned with the fate of the people of the Magdalen Islands, it is me, because I am one of them.

However, I can reassure the hon. member by telling him that I have had discussions with the president of Air Canada. Furthermore, on Friday, I will be meeting the mayor of the Magdalen Islands with the hon. member to examine all the details, air or marine transportation or any other problem he wishes to raise.

Criminal Code February 7th, 2005

moved that Bill C-10, an act to amend the Criminal Code (mental disorder) and to make consequential amendments to other acts, be read the third time and passed.
